NAICS CODE LOOKUP

What’s your NAICS code?

Search 122+ common 2022 NAICS codes by industry or number. Lenders and the SBA ask for yours — find it before you apply.

A NAICS code is the 6-digit number that classifies your business by industry. You’ll need it on tax filings, business registrations, and — the reason you’re probably here — loan and SBA applications. Lenders use it to apply SBA size standards, screen for ineligible industries, and price risk, so getting it right matters before you apply.

Search your main activity below (try “trucking,” “salon,” “HVAC,” or a code like “238220”). Each result links to the official Census definition so you can confirm the exact fit. This is a curated list of the codes small businesses most commonly use — for the complete official database, use the U.S. Census Bureau NAICS search.

NAICS code FAQs

What is a NAICS code?
A NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) code is a 2–6 digit number that classifies your business by industry. The U.S., Canada, and Mexico use it for statistics, government contracting, and — relevant to you — lending and SBA eligibility. Most businesses are identified by their 6-digit code.
How do I find my NAICS code?
Search your primary activity in the lookup on this page (e.g. “trucking,” “dental,” “restaurant”) or enter a code directly. Pick the 6-digit code that best matches the bulk of your revenue. For the full official list, use the U.S. Census Bureau’s NAICS search.
Why do lenders and the SBA ask for my NAICS code?
It tells them what you do and how risky your industry is. The SBA uses your NAICS code to apply size standards (which determine eligibility) and to screen out ineligible industries. Banks and online lenders use it for risk-based pricing and policy — some decline certain industries outright.
Can my business have more than one NAICS code?
Yes. Many businesses operate across activities. You’ll have one primary code (your main revenue source) and may list secondary codes. For financing, use the code that reflects the majority of your business.
What if I picked the wrong NAICS code?
It’s not permanent — there’s no central registry that locks you in. You select it on tax filings, applications, and registrations, and you can update it. Choosing an accurate code matters for SBA size standards and avoiding industry-based declines.
Does my NAICS code affect whether I qualify for an SBA loan?
It can. The SBA sets size standards by NAICS code, and certain industries are ineligible for SBA programs. An accurate code ensures you’re measured against the right standard. One application through EQ Funding routes your file to lenders whose criteria actually fit your industry.
